Toothprints® Dental Identification Tracks And Identifies Missing Children
SAN JOSE, CA (ContentDesk) February 12, 2004--Like fingerprints, dental imprints are unique to every person, so bite impressions can serve as an accurate method of identification. Toothprints are especially important now because the successful fight against tooth decay has left many children without cavities and, thus, no dental records.Toothprints is a patented, arch-shapped thermo plastic wafer. When a child bites into the softened wafer, it records individual tooth characteristics. The painless procedure takes only a few minutes. The hardened toothprint is stored at home in a zippered platic bag.An unrinsed toothprint also captures saliva, which is a powerful source of scent and DNA.

The scent makes it effective for police dog tracking. As a parent, San Jose dentist Dr. Kimberly Loos believes the Toothprints® dental ID can be extremely valuable in the event a child is lost or abducted. Dr. Loos offers this service for $10.

This nominal fee helps cover the cost of materials. Office time is donated. In the future, she hopes to protect more children by expanding this program to other dental offices

and further reduce the associated cost.About Dr. Kimberly Loos:Loos is a family and cosmetic dentist in San Jose, California. She is also a faculty member of the University of Pacific Dental School in San Francisco.

Her internationally acclaimed dental advice column is featured on iVillage, Inc. channel ParentsPlace.com at www.parentsplace.com/expert/dentist/Loos graduated from UCSF School of Dentistry and holds additional degrees in English and Dental Sciences. She was appointed to serve on the Peer Review Board of the Santa Clara County Dental Society. She is an active member in the American Society of Dentistry for Children, the American Dental Association, and the California Dental Association.
